The SFLHIMSS Chapter is pleased to host a two-hour In-Person Lunch & Learn event.  Lunch will be served.

The event will be held September 22, 2022, at the FIU College of Business Special Events Room on the FIU Main Campus located at 11200 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33199.

This Lunch & Learn event will focus on five areas of AgeTech:

  • Identify the unique cognitive, socio-emotional, and health technology adoption challenges associated with aging.
  • Examine best practices for improving older adults’ health technology comprehension and use.
  • Future direction of AgeTech
  • The use of specific technology to support the health and daily activities of the elderly.
  • Discuss the adoption of technology that may improve older adults' quality of life, facilitate independent living for longer life.

 

Our distinguished Lunch and Learn Speakers are:

Dr. Pouyan Esmaeil Zadeh serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics (ISBA) in the College of Business at Florida International University.

Dr. Esmaeil Zadeh has established a line of research at the intersection of information systems and health informatics, focusing on the impact of health information technology (HIT) on the performance of health systems, improving the quality and efficiency of care delivery, and enhancing the engagement of patients in managing their care. His main research objective is to study various HIT systems to offer technological solutions for enhancing health information exchange (HIE) across providers, care coordination, healthcare providers' workflows, system security, patient safety, the completeness and accuracy of medical records, and healthcare interoperability standards. His work appears in premier Information Systems and Health Informatics journals such as Information and Management, International Journal of Medical Informatics, Journal of Medical Internet Research, Journal of biomedical informatics, BMC medical informatics and decision making, Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Computers and Security, Information Technology & People, and Methods of Information in Medicine. He was appointed to a Knight-Ridder Center Research Fellowship in August 2021.

Dr. Min Chen is a SunTrust Bank associate professor in the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics at Florida International University and a Research Economist at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).

Dr. Chen uses large-scale datasets and state-of-the-art techniques to measure health policy impact and investigate the effectiveness of health ITs such as telehealth, EMR and HIE. Her research has been published widely in high impact peer-reviewed journals such as Health Affairs, Health Economics, Journal of Medical Internet Research, and Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association. Her most recent research projects include developing AI-enabled decision support in stroke triage and diagnosis, examining the interplay between interoperability and cybersecurity, and the digital transformation of hospitals and the health care systems during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to joining FIU, Dr. Chen worked as an economic consultant at Charles River Associates and advised on antitrust issues in hospitals, health systems and the pharmaceutical industry. She received the best professor and best course awards from FIU's Healthcare MBA program and has been invited to address various stakeholders about the challenges and opportunities facing the U.S. health care system.

 

Dr. Erik Ilyayev is the founder and former CEO of MyHouseVisit.com which is an organization that provides medical home visits to the elderly and home bound. He founded the company right after he completed his residency at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. His team of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and care coordinators have serviced more than 5,000 patients in the New York metropolitan area. In 3/2021 MyHouseVisit.com was acquired via a Merger & Acquisition by a venture backed healthcare organization called ConcertoCare.  Dr. Ilyayev served as the regional medical director of hospice for the Visiting Nurse Service Of New York, which is the largest not-for-profit home- and community-based health care organization in the nation.  He is very passionate about medical education, he holds academic appointments as Associate Professor of Medicine in Touro College, St. Georges Medical University and is the Vice Director of Undergraduate Medical Education for Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.  Seeing the complexity of chronic disease and the opportunity for optimized coordination of care, Dr. Ilyayev co-founded iKonnect.io, a technology platform, which currently delivers care coordination to physician practices nationally.

 

Dr. Naushira Pandya is Professor and Chair of the Geriatrics Department at NSU, Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Project Director of the HRSA funded NSU South Florida Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP). She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Endocrinology and Metabolism, and is a certified medical director and a geriatrics fellowship program director.  Dr. Pandya holds the distinction of being a Fulbright Senior Specialist Scholar, White House advisor during the Obama Administration, Past President of AMDA, the national Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine, and VP of the Broward County Area Agency on Aging. She has participated in development of multiple clinical guidelines and position statements and is recognized for her work in diabetes in the elderly, as well as best practices in long-term care. On a national level, she participated as a panelist in the White House Conference on Aging, and in the White House Conference on Antibiotic Stewardship, and served on Physician’s Advisory Committee for the National Quality Forum, and as a member of College of Surgery Coalition for Quality in Geriatric Surgery. She has multiple publications, textbook chapters and is a frequent invited speaker at national and international conferences.
