South Florida HIMSS Newsletter

March 2018

Welcome to our first edition of the South Florida HIMSS Chapter newsletter!

We heard you! In our recent member survey, we asked about the types of communication you receive from South Florida HIMSS, and suggestions for making those communications more meaningful to you. In keeping with that commitment, we are pleased to bring you our first South Florida HIMSS newsletter. We hope to provide you with more at-a-glance information and less email clutter. Hopefully this will also allow you to put future event dates on your calendar, allowing you to attend even more events.

We remain open to your suggestions, so if you have additional feedback or would like to become involved in SFLHIMSS communications, please email Communications Chair Kelly Jackson at

Advocacy Update

We've been extremely busy with advocacy efforts, led by our Advocacy Chairs Kendall Brown & Erik Pupo.

Some highlights:

  • Kendall Brown has been nominated for HIMSS Chapter Advocate of the Year for 2017. Results will be announced at the February Chapter Advocacy Roundtable meeting on February 16. This provides great recognition for our chapter, including HIMSS18.
  • HIMSS National Chapter Advocate of the Year is a prestigious and widely recognized award presented to the Chapter Advocate who demonstrates exceptional leadership when it comes to advocating for health IT. The recipient of this award will receive a full scholarship to HIMSS18 Annual Conference and is recognized during its annual Public Policy Leaders Networking Breakfast, state & chapter officials lunch and the chapter leaders preconference workshop.
  • Due to our volume of advocacy efforts, our chapter will also be recognized in the Health IT Policy Update e-newsletter, which you can find HERE.
